This piece was done for a writer friend,
, who crafted a superb action-drama series about Gum Belle, a rubbery crime-fighter in an unforgiving 1930's backdrop, that has kept me glued from one chapter to the next. It's got a great balance of everything: gritty action, heartfelt drama, and a light touch of comedy that can either be subtle or laugh-out-loud hilarious. I can't say enough about his entertaining and creative storywriting, the man has a natural gift.
I posted a stand-alone piece with Belle months ago: [link]
It was one of the first pieces I made after joining Deviantart and I always wanted to follow it up with a little more from his story. This series is begging to be published in some form or another! And my aim was to lend my skills to Stretch in any way I could, and perhaps help provide some visuals (not that Stretch-Ink is a bad artist himself!
Gum Belle is a powerhouse of resilient elasticity and adaptability who tends to want things her own way, is determined to do the right thing no-matter-what!, and has an inclination to jump in first and use her head later. She's a really endearing and human personality.
Okay, so I have a mildly unhealthy attraction to Gum Belle.
But it goes without saying that crimefighters are defined by their opponents, and in order to give Belle due credit and underscore the dangers she goes up against, I wanted to render a visual piece to reflect the type of super-goons she encounters in her adventures. Presenting the Board of Crime and their master-mind Phantom Skull, with Stretch-Ink's permission, of course. Since these are all his characters, and because Stretch-Ink is a better handler of words anyway, I suggest you read more about the characters and the setting at this mirrored posting: He also has a better hi-rez copy for download
I hope, if you haven't already begun, that you take the opportunity to start reading Belle's adventures right now, because it's a wonderful slice of Awesome. [link]
